Stump Grinding & Root Chasing in Brisbane & South East Queensland

Where it all started for our family business: clean grinds, sensible depths, and roots tracked before they lift pavers.

Why grind instead of poison

Poisoning a stump can leave a spongy hazard in the lawn for years and still send suckers up through garden beds. Grinding removes the structural heart of the stump, lets soil settle evenly, and gives you a level starting point for turf, paving, or a new tree with a fresh root collar.

Across SEQ we see plenty of narrow side access. Our smaller units fit through standard gates while still chewing hardwoods efficiently. We also chase surface roots that are lifting footpaths or nudging retaining walls, so the problem does not return next wet season.

What is involved

We locate services, irrigation, and buried electrical runs before the teeth go in. Depth is matched to your plan, typically 200–300 mm below lawn level for turf, deeper if you are pouring a small slab.

Chips are raked back into the hole or carted off, depending on how much organic matter you want left behind. If you are replanting, we can leave a blend of mulch and soil to amend the grindings so the new specimen drains properly.

What to expect on the day

Expect engine noise for a few hours on larger stumps, plus a fine sawdust plume we manage with directional shields where neighbours are close. Pets are best kept inside while the cutter head is spinning.

We mark out the grind radius with you before starting, especially near pools, glass balustrades, or fresh paintwork. When we finish, the area is left tidy and ready for your landscaper, or we can quote topsoil and turf if you want a single invoice.

Why owners choose us

Depth control

We grind to the depth your project needs, not a shallow cosmetic skim that leaves hidden wood behind.

Access experience

Tight gates and stepped yards are normal for SEQ; we plan machine placement before we commit to a start date.

Root chasing

Surface roots that crack paths or trip kids get traced and removed where it is safe for the remaining landscape.

Common questions

Will stump grindings kill my grass if I leave them in place?

Fresh grindings can tie up nitrogen while they break down. For instant lawn we usually remove excess chip and bring in a thin layer of topsoil before turf or seed. If you are planting shrubs, we blend compost through the grindings to balance the carbon load.

Can you grind a stump next to a Colourbond fence?

Often yes, with guards to protect the sheets and shallow passes so we do not throw debris against the rails. If the stump is physically touching the post, we may hand-dig part of the flare first to keep vibrations off the structure. Queensland’s WHS rules guide how close we work to fixed structures.

Do I still need a council permit to grind a protected tree stump?

If the tree was regulated, the stump usually remains protected until council records show compliant removal. We ask to sight approvals before grinding so you are not caught off guard during a routine inspection.

Measure once, grind once

Text a photo of the stump and access path, and we will confirm machine size and timing.
